Partnering for a Green Future: Sun Tribe Solar
As DP Facilities develops a solar energy farm near our flagship Mineral Gap Data Center in Wise, Virginia, we’re leveraging the experience, skills and knowledge of Sun Tribe Solar of Charlottesville, Virginia, to bring the project to fruition.
Shared Values
For DP Facilities, this partnership enables us to realize our commitment to sustainability and the economic health of the markets we serve.
As Sun Tribe Solar says, “more than any single technology, it’s positive, professional partnerships that make successful projects possible. We believe in investing in these long-lasting partnerships that make a real impact today while helping us build a more sustainable tomorrow.”
Shared Leadership
Sun Tribe Solar is an industry leader in the development, engineering, procurement, construction and operation of large-scale solar facilities.
- The Sun Tribe Solar team brings over 2 GW of renewable energy experience, having built generating facilities for utilities including Dominion, PSEG, Exelon, and Entergy.
- Sun Tribe Solar engineers and project managers have led the design and construction of projects ranging in size from 2 MW to 64 MW.
By partnering with Sun Tribe to add solar power at our Mineral Gap Data Center, we are collaborating to help the data center industry reduce its footprint on the energy distribution grid while helping the local community embrace energy innovation — while injecting approximately $1.2 million into the local economy over the project’s lifecycle. In addition to Mineral Gap Data Center and the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy, Sun Tribe Solar partnered with the Wise County IDA and Appalachian Voices to help make this historic project possible.
Shared Opportunity
In 2019, our solar energy farm in Wise, Virginia, was named one of the 10 economic development projects selected for grant approval from the Abandoned Mine Land (AML) Pilot program administered by the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) and funded by the Federal Power Plus Pilot Program.
Of the $64.4 million in projects DMME has completed over the past decade across areas of Virginia where coal was historically mined, this is the first solar project to ever receive AML funding anywhere in the Commonwealth. DMME showed tremendous vision by directing some of its AML investment toward solar, which creates a win-win-win for Virginia, Sun Tribe Solar and DP Facilities.
The pilot grant will help DP Facilities and Sun Tribe Solar accelerate the development of up to 3.5 megawatts of renewable power — which we envision as just the beginning of solar development in Wise and Southwestern Virginia.
TESTIMONIALS
“At Sun Tribe, we’re focused on renewable energy innovation which will ensure that as communities throughout Virginia look to build 21st century economies, solar is going to play a critical role in powering the future. We know that solar can succeed when projects are built in partnership with local stakeholders in both the public and private sectors.”
