Data Centers Give Boost to Economy in Hannibal

DP Facilities Inc. has selected a site in Hannibal for its next world-class data center campus

The facility will be constructed next to the 485 Megawatt natural gas-fired Long Ridge Energy Terminal being developed by Fortress Transportation and Infrastructure Investors LLC, offering scaled data center customers up to 125 MW of affordable power to manage operating costs.

The Long Ridge Energy Terminal, being built on the site of the Ormet Aluminum Plant which closed in 2013, broke ground in May 2019 and is slated for completion in November 2021. The combined cycle natural gas power plant is expected to be one of the most energy-efficient in the world.

“Long Ridge Energy Terminal is a significant development project for FTAI, and DP Facilities is excited to be a partner in a specialized use of the property for secure data center space for government and highly regulated tenants,” said DP Facilities spokesperson Marc Silverstein. “This facility’s power profile cannot be matched elsewhere in the country with the same certainty of fuel supply and the absence of hazards at the site, and will offer leading-edge security, dependable resiliency, and long-term value — which are hallmarks of DP Facilities data centers.”

“The Hannibal data center campus is consistent with our win-win business model that brings long-term, high-skill, well-paying jobs to communities that are transitioning their economies toward sustainable 21st century clean-powered business,” added Silverstein. “The site also may accommodate a solar power installation, although the natural gas plant fulfills DP Facilities’ sustainability objectives.”

The project will bring a projected 300 construction jobs to the area, advancing the goals of the JobsOhio Revitalization program. Once completed, the data center campus will train and employ approximately 40 to 50 local people for high-paying careers offering stability and opportunity.

DP Facilities uses intelligent site selection, a security first design approach and outstanding operational abilities to create critical infrastructure that is capable of serving the most demanding missions and compliance requirements in the world. The company plans to continue to grow its portfolio to offer customers additional sites to maintain and secure their data.

“Our partnership with DP Facilities is ideal both for this project and for the greater Hannibal community,” said Long Ridge Energy Terminal President Bo Wholey. “Data centers represent the highest and best use of our available on-site resources and for the electricity we will be producing, and data center demand is tremendous and growing. The low-cost, fixed-price electricity we’re offering makes this a natural fit.”
